Paperlace -
Featuring Phil Wright
The band originated in 1968 with all members originating from the Midlands area. In 1970, the guys auditioned for a TV talent show Opportunity Knocks (a latter day Britains Got Talent) but had to wait until 1973 before eventually appearing on the show. The line-up at that time was Mick Vaughan - Guitar & Vocals, Chris Morris - Guitar & Vocals, Cliff Fish - Bassi & Vocals and Philip Wright - Drums & Lead Vocals. The viewers loved them and showed the band just how much by voting them winners for 5 consecutive weeks and it was during this time they were spotted by multi-million selling songwriters, Mitch Murray and Peter Callender. In 1974 their first hit - Billy Dont Be A Hero - rapidly shot to number one in the UK charts, selling over 1,000,000 copies. Their follow up single The Night Chicago Died climbed high in the UK charts but failed to reach number 1 but it did reach the number one spot across the water over in the USA, selling over 2,000,000 copies awarding the band with a Platinum Disc, which at the time was considered a major achievement for any British group. The boys third single, all about a musical motorbike gang The Black Eyed Boys gave them their third top 10 UK hit and further fame by achieving silver, then gold status all over the world.

Today, Phil & Cliff are still members of the band, which means the rhythm section that was PaperLace back then still remains and Drummer Phil Wright, (the voice you hear on all the hits) still sings the songs as fresh as they were when he first recorded them back in 74. The ever youthful Cliff Fish, accomplished bassist and vocalist does complete the original rhythm section. These two have joined forces with Phil Hendriiks on Keyboards and Paul Robinson on Guitar and vocals
So PaperLace are still on the road, bringing you a live music set which will whisk you back to the seventies, playing all their own hits and album tracks interjected with their own take on some of the more iconic hits of that unforgettable era!
