Original voice of Smokie
Born in Redcar, North Yorkshire, Chris Norman acquired his first guitar at the age of seven. His early musical influences were Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Lonnie Donegan.
After moving around the country with his parents they settled in Bradford and he started at St. Bede's Grammar School where he was to meet Alan Silson and Terry Uttley, future members of Smokie. After many successful years with Smokie Chris decided he wanted to spend more time writing and working in the studio so he left Smokie and began to write songs for other artistes. After a period of time Chris decided that he wanted to perform on stage again so he concentrated on a solo career.
That part of his career took off in 1986 with the song, "Midnight Lady", which was a hit throughout Europe holding the number one spot in Germany for six weeks. .
Further success quickly followed with the songs "Some Hearts Are Diamonds", "No Arms Can Ever Hold You" - "Broken Heroes" - "Fearless Hearts", "Sarah" and "Baby I Miss You". In 1994, Chris was honoured by CMT Europe as their 'International Video Star of the Year'.
In June , 2007, Norman performed at the Peel Bay Festival, Isle of Man. with Robin Gibb and Bonnie Tyler performing on the same night.
" Norman continues to this day to record and perform gigs throughout Europe and beyond with his own band 'the Chris Norman band'
